Would you speak out if you knew Her Majesty Revenue and Customs had misused thousands of pounds of public funds to charge you with being an extremist for heckling the British National Party at a peaceful protest in Burnley? Would you refuse to drop your case with the Civil Service Commissioners if you were warned by HMRC you would be sacked if you did not? Letter from Dr Martin Farr, (University of Newcastle) dated 6 July, 2004, informing whoever it may concern I was pursuing academic research on the BNP as part of my PhD, and please provide any assistance required. Shortly after I was informed by HMRC that staff had used internal grievance procedures to complain about my academic research on the BNP, and all options were on the table, including dismissal.
